Young Hornets To Watch

While the New Orleans Hornets may be one of the league’s worst teams in fantasy basketball for money this season, they are also one of the youngest. In addition to blossoming rookies power forward Anthony Davis and shooting guard Austin Rivers, the Hornets also have relatively young talent in power forward Ryan Anderson (their leading scorer in fantasy basketball for money this season), center Robin Lopez and point guard Greivis Vasquez.

Vasquez hasn’t just been a good point guard for the Hornets this season, but in fact has been one of the best point guards in fantasy basketball for money also. The 25-year old Vasquez (who was drafted towards the end of the first round of the 2010 draft by the Memphis Grizzlies) is averaging 14.2 points a game and 9.2 assists per game for the Hornets this season.

That assists number isn’t just good, it’s third best in all of fantasy basketball for cash. The even better news for the Hornets is that Vasquez has only gotten better each season that he has been in the league. In his rookie season, Vasquez barely saw the floor the Memphis Grizzlies, averaging just 12.3 minutes per game and 2.2 assists per game. In his second season (and his first as a member of the Hornets), Vasquez played 25.8 minutes per game (and started 26 games) while averaging 5.4 assists per game. Now, in his third season, Vasquez has officially arrived at the Hornets, emerging as their starting point guard and a blossoming court general. Vasquez has started all 36 of the Grizzlies’ games this season and has been turning heads all across the fantasy basketball world. If he continues with his rapid and unexpected progression, it might not be long until he is considered one of the game’s best point guards.
